“We don’t accomplish anything in this world alone… and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one’s life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something beautiful.” – Sandra Day O’Connor.
Like many large cities, Phoenix has been described as one that lacks community. Within our fast-pace urban environment it is difficult to find the time and place to be with a group of individuals who bring meaningful connection and a sense of belonging to our lives. Creating and building communities is essential to the health and happiness of all its members and to the vitality of the city at large.
Community has been a core principle at Desert Song throughout our 36-year history. This principle has guided us in building a foundation of community through the practices, therapies and healing arts we offer. The growth of the center is supported by the core beliefs of inclusivity, acceptance and respect. It’s an absolute blessing to be a part of a healthy, growing community offering an oasis in the city to connect with one another.
Every person is important to the whole, independent yet dependant on one another for support and strength. Students are missed when they are not in class. Experienced practitioners who are long standing students often offer encouragement, hugs of recognition and support to newer members. It is rewarding to hear massage clients thanking their therapists for alleviating their pain and finding support for their health.
It is through the yoga, tai chi, Pilates, meditation and all the therapeutic practices at Desert Song, that we are given an opportunity to slow our lives down and allow for the time needed to soften our hearts and recognize our connections to each other. These practices give us the confidence to step more fully into ourselves and when we come together, we find our best selves through the love and support of one another.
Thank you so much for being an important part of the Desert Song community. May you always feel that this community is here for you whenever you may need it.
With deep respect and love,
