Stott Pilates Certified Instructor, CYT-200
My passion for movement, the human body and the desire to nurture and nourish myself, as well as others, inspired me to learn Pilates and take on the role of movement educator. When I teach I feel connected and in flow.
As a movement teacher, I strive to be effective in my articulation and cuing when leading a session or class as well as remaining fully present for my clients and students to better assist them, meet their needs and be ready to change course if needed. “Let the student/client/the moment, teach me.” I feel honored to share my passion for conscious movement and wellness.
I have been teaching Pilates full time since I became a Stott Pilates certified teacher in 2009. I completed training in all Pilates apparatus; Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Stability Chair and Barrels. I like to work with clients of all ages and different needs in one-on-one sessions as well as group classes and workshops. To better assist clients individual needs, I attend continuing education courses like Stott Pilates Injuries and special Populations, Stott Pilates Athletic Conditioning and Thomas Myers’ Anatomy trains. I have completed Yoga Teacher Training 200 hour level and Holistic Nutrition Specialist program at South West Institute of Healing Arts. In 2017, I completed instructor training for Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention from Tai Chi for Health Institute and I’m currently learning and practicing Tai Chi Yang style.
In my classes, I focus on full body integration exercises – spinal articulation, joint mobility as well as stability and strength. There is a focus on core integration like abdominals, back and hips. I enjoy teaching the foundation of the practice, the principles and the essential exercises to offer an intelligent form of exercise that can be sustainable and practiced at any age or level and carried through to any other type of activity. My aim is for people to learn about their own bodies and experience functional movement patterns to prevent injury.
In her spare time, Michelle likes to keep moving. She walks, hikes, trail runs and, of course, all the above and aforementioned keeps her quite active.
Michelle couples her wealth of knowledge as a highly experienced Pilates instructor with an integrated understanding of body mechanics and health and wellness factors, to engagingly lead her classes and private instruction. She attentively observes and listens, offering movement modifications as needed. I find her approach to be very therapeutic.
Her kind, professional manner also helps build the trust I have in a key instructor.
