What a year we’ve had so far. I could never have predicted that by the end of March we would be offering only online classes. Or, as we move into August, the studio would still be closed. But as Heraclitus said, “The only thing that is constant is change.”

With that in mind, I’m writing to announce a change for Desert Song. Over the next few months, we will be reinventing Desert Song to adjust to and accommodate the needs of our clients and staff in the world as it is. As this process takes shape, we will keep you informed along the way.

As we faced the challenges brought on by the coronavirus, it became clear that our current building would be impossible to maintain without the in-person presence of our robust community. Understandably, the health and safety restrictions have changed every aspect of the services we offer, including revenue needed to sustain our offerings for the foreseeable future.

We made the difficult decision to list the building and quickly received an offer that we accepted. The buyer’s interest is in the property, not the building. We have a few months before the sale will be complete. In the meantime, we’ll continue to offer our online and pop up classes on a daily basis. And, we hope to begin offering massages and acupuncture in a few weeks. Again, we’ll keep you informed as plans progress letting you know what to expect and when.

Desert Song has relocated 4 times since its inception. Some of you have been with us through every change and most of you moved with us from our 7th Street location. Your support and dedication have always been the element that carries us through each change. Today, I am in awe of the support you have given us over the past few months. Your online attendance has been consistent and strong. Your many donations have made it possible for us to continue offering the variety and number of classes we have online.

Without you, our way forward would be very different. Thank you for making so many opportunities become a reality over the years. Whatever has come our way, our connection to each other has endured and continues to grow a supportive, resilient and adaptive community. If the only constant is change, we are ever grateful to have you with us whether online or in person.

With our love and sincere gratitude,

Mary Beth, Vince and the Desert Song Staff
